Advocacy
Advocacy involves building and maintaining support for the United Nations. It is essential to encourage members and the public to contact Federal representatives and senators on UN related matters. This is done through phone calls, emails and office visits both in our district and in Washington D.C. during the annual UNA Leadership Summit in June. Members of Congress have said that if they receive one communication a month on foreign policy issues, it means a lot, as they normally receive very few such inquiries.
The UNA national office provides resources, advice and consultation related to chapter activities and messaging priorities. This is useful input for our communications and programs on key issues related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.

The Chapter Handbook has everything you need to successfully manage your chapter and make a big global impact at the local level.
Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Archives
The chapter is the custodian of the records of our founder, Ruth Steinkraus-Cohen. There are thousands of photographs and 20 years of scrapbooks. Ruth kept letters from presidents and diplomats. 60 posters from the United Nations in the 1960s and 1970s are collected as well. Beginning in May 2021, the chapter has been reviewing and scanning the documents. In 2022, we hope to make all the documents curated and available online.
